I never imagined that I would be talking about something as disturbing as child sex dolls being sold on Amazon. When I heard that it was a thing, my immediate reaction was one of indignation. How can this even be allowed? This is the kind of thing that not even the most twisted mind should be creating, let alone selling.
My concern grew even more when I read that research suggests that some men are using these dolls to act out their fantasies and longings. It made me sick to think of it and I had to take a moment to really take it all in before I was able to move on.
I can hear some of you thinking: isn’t Amazon just a platform where sellers can put up any kind of items? Some may argue that Amazon shouldn’t be held responsible for selling stuff like this. But, in my opinion, different companies have different values and Amazon should take the lead in setting a good example and banning anything that’s even remotely related to such an abhorrent topic.
I decided to do some research on this to get a better understanding of why this market is even allowed to exist. In one of the articles I read, I came across a really heart-breaking story about a young girl who was a fundamental part of this illicit trade. She had been trafficked and subjected to unimaginable abuse. The author of the article argued that the dolls provide alternatives to some of those customers who are too weak to control their desires.
To me, this argument just felt like a cop-out. Instead of providing customers with something that would enable them to act on such perverse desires, why not provide them with something that would help them realize and process those feelings in healthy ways?
I know that creating something as simple as these dolls doesn’t just happen overnight, and that different countries have different laws when it comes to this subject; but I feel that something needs to be done because this is an issue that goes beyond just a few dolls. It reflects the way society deals with difficult and taboo topics, and it’s really hard for me to accept that we still live in a time where these kinds of marketplaces even exist.

But I think these, as well as other countries, should also be investing in programs that support victims of sex trafficking and any other form of abuse because, in my opinion, preventing the abuse of minors should be the priority.
There’s no doubt this is an incredibly complex issue and I don’t have all the answers, but I’m almost certain that the sale of child sex dolls should be illegal, no matter what kind of country we live in. Additionally, there should be more measures taken to protect victims of abuse and trafficking, which could even include educating people on the psychological implications of owning these dolls.
Overall, I’m very disturbed by this topic and I can only hope that it will soon become a thing of the past.
